Soldanella 'Spring Symphony'

Archive entry 15.03.09

A second generation hybrid from S.(carpatica x pusilla) raised and named by Edrom Nursery.

When I bought it the label said:

"A new selection by us multiplied by division with deep green rounded leaves and in summer, pale purple/blue pendent flowers on short stems with a frilly edge. Moist soils, light shade."

Their web entry says:

"These are really attractive alpine plants which do best in a little shade through the midday. Essentially evergreen leaves are pale green at first but soon darken down to their more usual deep green as they mature. They are rounded to heart shaped and held individually on petioles to 2 cms long which rise directly from the rootstock. In early spring the flowers are produced, these are bluish/purple in colour and held singly, each with a frilly edge, again rising directly from the rootstock, numerous flowers are produced from each plant. A selection from a cross between S. carpatica and S. pusilla which grows with more vigour than it's brothers and sisters. Propagated vegetatively."
