A broad leaved form. It has been suggested that this plant is actually a hybrid between T.brachycaulos and T.caput-medusae. Although it has survived a winter, it has looked really ill after the second. I am not sure if this is the effect of cold, or an unrelated issue. (I'm more experienced now, this was radiation frost damage. I could have prevented it if I had understood the issue at the time.) The Llifle encyclopedia says (in a 2022 page that has now been removed): "Origin and habitat: Guatemala, Zacapa (type and only collection from trail between Rio Hondo and waterfall). Altitude range: 250-400meters. Tillandsia brachycaulos var multiflora is an artificial hybrid or cultivar. Hybrid formula Tillandsia brachycaulos x Tillandsis caput-medusae. The var. multiflora is a bit bigger and sturdier than standard T. brachycaulos and has more elongated, sublax, 4-flower spikes." |
