The variegated form has recently appeared on the market. As with all variegated "Tradescantia" it is a little unstable.
I have been told that it reproduces freely by seed and the first green leaved seedling will be welcome - I seem to have lost
the typical one. I got it from Cotswold Garden Flowers and the label says: "Hardy. Elegant purple spotted cream and gren foliage from wiry purple stems and purple flowers almost continuously, 20 x 50cm. Survives as seed (self-seeding) in very hard winters." Farmyard Nurseries say: "Tinantia pringlei ‘Variegata’, also known as the Variegated Mexican Wandering Jew, is a captivating tropical perennial prized for its striking foliage. This lesser-known relative of the Tradescantia family boasts elongated, lance-shaped leaves adorned with stunning variegation. The foliage displays a vibrant mix of green, cream, and pink hues, creating a lively, eye-catching display that adds a tropical flair to any setting." |
