The King fern is a magnificent large fern from Australia and New Zealand. I have admired a mature specimen at Tremenheere for many years and was delighted when I was able to get a young plant.
It has grown well in the greenhouse and is now in a pot outside under an overhanging roof as I build up my courage to plant it outside.
Pan Global Plants say:
"A magnificent, large, evergreen fern from the Southern Hemisphere, rarely seen in the UK. Rather beautifully and regularly divided upright, bipinnate fronds rise up to 1.2m from an ever more trunk-like rhizome,
which can eventually become 90cm high in the wild state. 'Surprisingly hardy so far' according to Rickard, but best given a sheltered moist position."
