A double flowered form that appeals for its strangeness as much as any innate charm. In a strange twist of expectation, I find it more strongly perennial than many of the modern selections. Tradescantia Hub says: " the valid name for a unique cultivar. Established with a description by Bailey (1917, p. 3364). Because it was published before 1959, the Latin name can be accepted (Brickell et al., 2016, Art. 21.11). Like other hardy garden hybrids, it is now placed in the Andersoniana Group. These hybrids are sometimes mislabelled as Tradescantia virginiana or the invalid botanical hybrid Tradescantia × andersoniana. Described by Blütenwolke (1928, p. 33). |
