A widely distributed species from Mexico, it has also been recorded from the USA and should be fairly cold hardy.
I was given a plant grown from seed collected in Mexico and it did not look happy through the winter
(but survived). I know almost nothing about it but a quick search drew my attention to the fact that it causes
widespread allergic reactions in pets, especially cats. Fortunately I don't have a cat.
Pan Global Plants say:
"Collected in the Sierra de Pachuca, Mexico, this is an exceptional species, for its foliage alone.
Shining, succulent green leaves are translucent as far as the lower leaf surface when young, producing a hologram-like effect.
Pink flowers over a fairly long summer period. A tuberous species with potential hardiness, dying back completely in winter,
though easy in a pot overwintered under glass."
