I'm not sure I have ever grown this deliberately. A decade or so ago I was given a truly hideous imitation concrete log supporting a number of pots in which this was growing as a weed.
I had some sentimental reasons for not immediately consigning it to the waste, and by the time I did get rid of it, it had seeded into the cracks in the paving in the conservatory, and
into an assortment of other plants. I weed it regularly to reduce the population, but I never manage to eliminate it. Outside, it seems to prosper in the shade of the house. The frost
gets it, but seedlings regrow every year.
Plants of the World online says:
"The native range of this species is Mexico to NW. Argentina, Jamaica, Tobago.
It is a subshrub and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome. It is used to treat unspecified medicinal disorders."
