Tradescantia multiflora 'Variegated'
15th June 2008
It is strange to note the way thingscome around again. I quite like the ordinary green Tradescantia multiflora though it seeds around rather too freely
and has to be controlled from time to time. My current stock arrived quite by accident. A friend was moving house, and asked me to look after
a few plants for her, and one of them was the variegated T.multiflora, growing in a hollow artificial concrete tree trunk. The ensemble was one of the
most unique and repulsive things that I have ever seen, and I was forced to house it. It was never reclaimed, and after a couple of years, I threw it out, but not before
a mass of seedlings had germinated in the greenhouse where it stood. I have put the 'pot' into storage in case it is ever wanted !
In the meantime, among the green seedlings, a variegated one has germinated and so it returns full circle. (And if that pot returns, it will be disposed of
with a little more determination!)
