A very vigorous and pretty species. It seems to tolerate almost any conditions. It goes a bit brown if it gets too dry but the corms seem to persist pretty much regardless.
On the down side, it doesn't produce many flowers (lovely though they are) and it does produce a lot of leaves which die in a thick brown sheaf that clings on doggedly and
refuses to be cleared away.
In the Heronswood catalogue for 2000 Dan Hinckley says:
"A very pretty bulb from S. Africa with narrow, Crocosmia-like foliage and mid- to late summer blossoms of rose-red along 18" stems.
We have been extremely delighted with this species, which we cultivate in full sun and in extremely well-drained soil,
forming robust floriferous clumps over time and offering a very fine floral display in mid- to late summer."
