A vigorous dwarf species from China and the Himalayas. My plant comes from the collection ACE.1818 (Alpine Garden Society expetition to China, 1994). The Alpine Garden Society online encyclopedia says: "Height to 30cm Leaves mostly basal, l-5cm wide, five to seven lobed, each lobe tripartite, broadly ovate. Flowers solitary, yellow, 2- 4cm wide, opening flat. Sepals five to six, rounded, petals ten to twelve, narrowly wedge-shaped, slightly shorter than the sepals but the same length as the stamens. Uttar Pradesh to south-western China, on open slopes." Writing about the ACE collection in the Bulletin of the AGS, John and Hilary Birks say: "T. pumilus formed extensive stands of brilliant yellow. brightening up hillsides between 3100 and 3800m on the Sichuam Plateau." |
