Every now and then, for no reason that I am able to discern, a plant will add itself to the garden.
At a technical level I can explain in simple practical terms how Trollius CHEDDAR
arrived yesterday but why it happened? No, that is quite beyond me. Although widely circulated as CHEDDAR, it is actually the cultivar 'Taleggio'. Presumably somebody decided the CHEDDAR was a better name to sell it under. A very pale selection of the hybrid T. x cultorum that is stronger growing than the old T. x cultorum 'Alabaster' (and that is probably why I bought it in the first place). Digging Dog Nursery say: "Pale yellow, tissue-like petals fashion an exquisite, nearly double, shallow open cup. Casting a soft feminine mood on the May garden, the sumptuous blooms pose above an attractive mound of shiny foliage carved into small sections. A Dutch introduction, 'Cheddar' deserves to find its way into more gardens, where it will flourish in damp open sites matched with companions such as Sanguisorba obtusa or Geranium 'Espresso' ." |
