A soft lilac-pink cultivar, probably a selection of T. bakeri. It has been the longest lasting tulip in the open garden here. Registered by Visser Czn in 1971. The tulip register says: " Exterior light roseine purple, inner tepals somewhat lighter, outer base pale yellow; inside pastel mauve, large circular lemon yellow base, anthers yellow." Beth Chatto Gardens say: "One of the first tulips to emerge, with broad, glossy, vibrant green leaves. In spring, the lilac-pink flowers, with a broad buttery-yellow central zone, are wide open to the sun. Can spread by stolons. Found on the island of Crete." |
