Tulipa 'Margarita'

A deep pink double tulip that has grown well in a container, producing long lasting floweres in the middle of spring.
At the very end of the bulb season, with Christmas shrieking in the distance, the garden centres become very keen to clear the last autumn bulbs from the shelves. I couldn't resist these (and a lot of other things) when offered £130 of bulbs for £8. They have repaid the investment handsomely.

Sarah Raven says:

"This tulip really wants to be a peony, doing everything it can to double up and almost out-do any rival nearby.
Excellent garden and vase life, this is the newly bred, zappy and unique purple-pink."

Registered by J. W. Reus Bloembollen in 1998 in the Early Double Group. The KAVB register says:

"Summary colour: dark purple-red (CC 59A) with purple (CC 71C) border. Inside: bottom canary yellow (CC 7A). Petal reddish magenta (CC 64B). Along the midrib fuchsia red (CC 63A).
