One of the very dark purple tulips that are astonishing among the chromatic riots of spring. This is one of
my favourite flowers of the season, they persist for a few years in a dry bed but slowly fade away. It is a pleasure
to replace them from time to time. 'Queen of Night' is one of the earliest dark tulips, raised by J. J. Grullemans and Sons in Holland in 1895. There are more modern varieties with darker flowers but so far nothing can match it for vigour and reliability. With refreshing simplicity the KAVB register says: "Deep velvety maroon." |
