I find it hard to resist a new name though when I bought this one it was about as resistible as an uninspiring leaf in a pot can be.
Now it has flowered it is reasonably clear that the name was the best part and even that was misleading (the species has greenish
brown flowers). The real thing is out there, and I am looking... Plants of the World online accepts the species as T. verdoornia though as Vosa says: "The species has been named in honour of the renown South African Botanist, Miss I. C. Verdoorn. Following the current nomenclatural rules in the case of a female person, it has been found proper to amend the name verdoornia, as in the original description, into verdoorniae." |
