A very old picture of a cultivar I grew for a while. The only thing I can remember is that it wasn't particularly purple.
There vare astonishingly few purple-leaved evergreens so a degree of poetic licence is to be expected. Trees and Shrubs online says that the leaves are "dark green, tinged with purple" which has the whiff of well intentioned kindness about it. Paramount Plants say: "The polished leaves, about 10 cm long, are purple-bronze when young, turning green as they mature, but take on purple hues again in cold weather, accompanied by the red flower buds which form in autumn. The pale pink and white flowers of Laurustinus Purpureum open in clusters starting in mid-winter, continuing until mid-spring for a lovely early season show. They are followed by dark blue berries." |
