There are a couple of double forms, which can be the most gorgeous
little spring rosebuds, but also sometimes manifest as sky poo! Margery Fish wrote in 'Ground Cover Plants' (as 'coeruleo-plena'): "The double form, V.m. coerulea-plena is not completely double but very pretty with crumpled petals growing where the stamens should be, but not so thick that the delicate markings inside the flower are hidden. There is another double blue vinca called Trees and Shrubs online says: "Flowers double, light violet blue. The plant was entered won an Award of Merit in the Wisley trials under this name, which is preferable to ‘Plena’ as there are several double-flowered mutations." Chris Adam says: "'Azurea Plena' is a double-flowered cultivar with mid-blue flowers. An old favourite, it occasionally produces single flowers." |
