Raised by Groves of Bridport, a good large flowered lilac pink. Their label says: "Our own seedling, pale pink petals unusually splashed with carmine centre. Scented." Roy Genders says: "'Becky Groves' (Groves, 2000). Pale to mid-pink, deeper centre." The Groves website says: "This is one of our own seedlings - it has pale pink petals with lovely carmine pink centres and is scented. It is named after the daughter of Clive and Diana Groves." A note on Plant Lust by Violetsblew says: "Fragrant and oh, so pretty. Viola odorata "Becky Groves" is pale to mind-pink with a cerise center at the top petals. Very cute. (Groves, 2000)" The American Violet Society register says: Viola odorata (possibly ‘Lydia Groves’?) grown by Clive Groves of England. Medium size blooms are pale/mid pink (darker than 'Mme Armandine Pages') and unusually splashed with a carmine centre to flower, top 2 petals(67A centre), (65B outer) rose pink veins, back of petals rose pink, spur rose pink(57D). Flowers are borne on pale green, medium thick, 8cm long stems. Heart shaped, medium green leaves grow on the mounding, medium vigorous plant. Introduced in 2000. First exhibited during the 1st International Violet Contest / 7th International Violet Meeting, held in February of 2004, in Toulouse, France. Meeting and contest were organised by Les Amis de la Violette, France." |
