The Sweet Violet industry spent decades selecting forms with large flowers on long,strong stems. Almost all of them were purple. Modern hybridists are producing a lot of new
and interesting colour combinations, but they are useless for picking, which is a delight and one of the best reasons for growing them in the first place. This has a lovely flower but it is small and not worth picking. Roy Coombs says: "'Kerry Girl' (Carman, New Zealand). Lavender-pink 65C with distinctive lines on lower petals. Very large and free flowering." |
