A good pink form with peachy overtones, emphasised by burgundy lines on the lower petal. Roy Genders says: "'Phyll Dove' (Australia; 'Sulfurea' sport). Orange coloured flowers." In a post on facebook (15.02.24) John Grimshaw wrote: "The unusually coloured Viola odorata 'Phyl Dove' is looking well at the moment. Unfortunately it's not scented, but that colour compensates. I got it some years ago from Cotswold Garden Flowers and thought I'd lost it, but it has reappeared from seed. As these violets are apomictic (producing seed without pollination) seedlings always come true." In his Garden Diary - Violets are blue - or are they (10.03.2012) John says: "There are a good many red and clear pink ones and a soft yellow, 'Sulfurea'. Visiting Cotswold Garden Flowers last weekend I pounced on a pot of 'Phyl Dove', which has astonishingly peach-coloured flowers, a shade I'd not seen before. It is said not to be scented, but it is fragrant in then evening." |
