A modern selection that is not far from the appearance of the species. I refer to it as "Bodmin" to identify the clone and record where it came from.
I bought it hoping that it would be as hardy as 'Cathy', but it wasn't. Wikipedia says: "The bromeliad is endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome (Mata Atlantica Brasileira), located in southeastern Brazil." Werner Rauh says: (carinata (us) boat shaped, having a keel; because of the floral bracts, which have a distinct keel) V. carinata has been in cultivation for a long time and more commonly known as V. psittacina . The inflorescences are made attractive by the large, distinctly keeled, red and greenish yellow floral bracts. A recommended species for cultivation. |
