A small growing orchid from the mountains of the northen Andes. I had hoped that it mikght be tough enough to stand conditions in the greenhouse
but a severe radiation frost in the winter of 2022-23 destroyed its leaves and it didn't recover. The Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia says: "Found in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru at elevations around 2000 meters as a large sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte or occasional terrestrial with close set, ovoid-ellipsoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, plicate, lanceolate-elliptic to elliptic-oblong, acute, gradually narrowing below into the cuneate, sulcate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter on a lateral, semi-erect, 15" [37.5 cm] long, racemose, rather loosely several to many flowered inflorescence arising on a newly matured pseudobulb with 3 to 4 loose, tubular, remote bracts and very small floral bracts." |
