Cornflowers are an annual delight and from time to time I get the urge to indulge myself with a packet of seed. I always buy mixed colours although it is only the blue ones that I really like.
I look on the others kindly: it makes me feel benign.
A native of Europe and probably introduced to the UK as a weed in grain crops, it has a long history here but is slowly being exterminated by agricultural intensification and efficiency.
