A vigorous, large flowered cultivar that stands cutting back very well. I planted it in the herbaceous border behind some Hemerocallis that go over
in a rush at the end of August. The idea was that the Clematis would grow over them and hide the inevitable tattiness. Fat chance is, I think, the phrase I would use. Notwithstanding,
the Clematis is a good thing. Raised by A.Girault in France in 1968 from a cross between 'Ville de Lyon' and 'Pourpre Mat'.
