I bought it as a very young plant and it spent a couple of years in a pot being beautiful but pointless. Eventually it was planted at the back of the herbaceous border in the hope that it would provide some colour during inevitable gaps.

In the event it has wandered a few metres over the ground and run up a young Trachycarpus. It wasn't the plan but it is a happy enough combination.
Raised by Walter Pennell at his nursery near Cleethorpes in 1962 and introduced in 1973. It is a seedling from a cross between 'Lincoln Star' and 'Mrs N Thomson'.
