15th April 2012
A dwarf species from the southeastern USA. The centre of distribution seems to be West Virginia and North Carolina
where the coastal plain rises into the southern Apalachians.
It has a different 'look' about it compared with the west coast species but I am hoping it will respond to similar
conditions in the garden (the flower opens wider than this).
2nd April 2021
It has been very slow to establish but I have a few offshoots coming up around the patch and this is the best flowering I have seen here.
