28th August 2011

A small growing evergreen species from the eastern cape where it is very localised and seriously endangered by overgrazing and domestic development. Fortunately it is easy in cultivation. Grows well with plenty of moisture in summer and then drying out (slightly) through the winter.

If you were wondering what distinguishes N. masoniorum from the other thread leaved Nerine then part of the answer lies in the tiny appendage with a forked tip at the base of the anther. Difficult to see with the naked eye, but just possible if you know what you are looking for and where it should be.
