Originally described as a species but now reclassified as a subspecies of P. daurica, the flowers can be white or pale yellow and may be blushed with pink. It is one of three tetraploid subspecies (along with P. daurica ssp. macrophylla and P. daurica ssp. tomentosa). It is a mountain plant from Georgia.
It is growing well in the herbaceous border but it is slowly becoming shaded and will have to be moved before long.
