Pleurothallis tuerckheimii

Archive entry 13.12.20

4th April 2010

This seems to be the toughest species I have tried so far. It is not happy through the winter but it seems to get slightly larger every year.
I have only flowered it once so far and it produced these long thin purple-brown flowers which demonstrate conclusively that I have the wrong name and I have no idea what this really is!
Obtained originally as P. violacea it now seems that P. tuerckheimii is more likely.

Found in Central America, from Mexico to Panama, growing in cloud forest at altitudes up to 2,400m. It was remarkably tough through the radiation frosts in early December 2022, suffering little damage and recovering rapidly in the greenhouse.
