Flowers reliably every year by the front gate, and always looks ... hopeful! Recently I have removed some of the trees that were shading it, and as a result it has grown larger, denser
and pinker. The International Rhododendron Register says: "Evergreen azalea: orange form of indicum (s) x 'Momozono'. Raised: B.Y. Morrison. Introduced: USDA (1947) Fls 2-3/truss, 40-45mm wide, rose (near strong purplish red (63B)), with an inconspicuous blotch. Lvs small, pointed, dark green. Shrub to 1.9m. Late April-early May. Glenn Dale." It grew very well in front of the house for many years but in the end it had to be moved and it disappeared. For a long time I confused it with 'Abbot', so I have more recent pictures labelled 'Hopeful' but I was mistaken. 'Hopeful' vanished along the way without me realising. |
