JEARRARD'S HERBAL

Acanthus sennii
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody hears it, did it make any sound? It's a question attributed to George Berkeley though he didn't actually say it.
No trees have fallen in the garden this week but the saying fits the situation. I haven't been out there either. On Saturday I fell and broke a couple of ribs
so who knows what happened out there, certainly not me.
Fortunately I had already taken the pictures. Acanthus sennii by the wall of the house, flowering earlier and looking better than ever before.
I think it has enjoyed the rain.

Amaryllis belladonna
Several years ago the Nerine and Amaryllis Society were given some seed of white Amaryllis belladonna by a grower in Japan. I flowered one last year, and have flowered one this year.

Crocosmia aurea 'Golden Ballerina'
Crocosmia are occasionally wonderful things but Crocosmia aurea makes my heart sing. It isn't really hardy here so I have to grow it in the greenhouse but it is worth every effort.
I tried to raise some seedlings from it last year but nothing came of it. Perhaps an unheard tree fell on it.

Hedychium densiflorum 'Assam Orange'
If I am feeling stronger tomorrow I will try to walk as far as Hedychium 'Assam Orange'. This group is establishing slowly in the deep shade of some mature Leyland Cypress.
If a tree falls in the forest, let's hope it doesn't happen just now or it will stay where it lands for some time!
