Paeonia mascula ssp. mascula
5th April 2013
I bought a seedling last year as a trial and have been amazed to see a bud come up this year. Now I am hoping
that it was the first flush of enthusiasm rather than a last gasp.
The species grows (sporadically) from Turkey through to Spain, usually growing in sparse broad leaved forests. It usually occurs in limestone areas and at altitudes from 300 to 2200m.
A small introduced population grows on the island of Steep Holm in the Bristol Channel.
