My Disa hybrids are identified by hybrid formulae. In the list on this page the formulae have been juggled so that the parents appear in alphabetic order, as far as is possible. This helps to ensure that all of the entries end up in the right place, it puts similar hybrids together and it shows me when different hybrids I have made share a common parentage.
On the individual pages, parentage within brackets follows the convention of listing the seed parent first followed by the pollen parent so that the way the hybrid was produced is clearer. Index builders and hybridists have different goals so the same information is presented in two different ways. This may make things clearer, it may obfuscate the issue. If I could think of a simpler solution, I would use it (suggestions on a post card please).

2017.
I seem to be growing more and more Disa at present. Fortunately there is some spare space following a reduction in the number of Sarracenia in the greenhouse. I am also growing a lot more seedlings so I suppose an increase is inevitable.
Early hybrids were a matter of crossing plants that looked interesting and that happened to be flowering at the same time. More recently I have been using D. tripetaloides to produce small hybrids with multiple flowers on compact stems in an assortment of colours. In the last two years I have started to use D. aurata in place of D. tripetaloides to create a series of "equivalent" hybrids with yellow underlying pigment rather than white. It is still early but the inheritance of yellow colour is already proving interesting.

2020.
The greenhouse has filled with a chaos of seedlings and the page is running out of control. I am going to try and impose some order by including my own hybrids on this page. As I decide to save particular clones they will be transferred to the main Disa page here.
