ROHDEA
Rohdea japonica is one of the traditional plants of Japanese horticulture, where they are known as "Omoto". Grown for
centuries for its interesting variegated forms and leaf shapes. They are hardy woodland plants,
but the best forms are very slow growing, and benefit from being grown in pots with protection.
I was introduced to them by Roger Grounds in the 1980's, and have been delighted to grow them ever since.
Slowly over the years I have managed to obtain a handful of cultivars. I find them slow growing and very slow to
propagate, so they are unlikely to become common.
